The forthcoming release of Microsoft's Web Apps package for Office applications will require a constant internet connection in order to function, it has been revealed.
CNet News has reported that Microsoft senior vice-president Chris Capossela commented at an interview yesterday (November 17th) that initial forms of the applications will not be available offline.
However, he noted that "in the first generation we are certainly looking at having them be connected. For offline usage of course the Office suite is incredibly powerful".
The company confirmed last month at the Professional Developer Conference in Los Angeles that it had plans to bring forward an online version of the Office suite.
Meanwhile, in related news, Nwitimes.com recently reported that Microsoft's Compatibility Pack for PowerPoint is of great use to individuals running older versions of the software - for example, Office 2003.
The article noted that software converts Office 2007 files in to compatible formats for running on older versions of the software and vice-versa.
